Msassage Therapy FAQ's

Massage Therapists should begin with a Health History Questionnaire, ensuring that all health issues are addressed; as well as personal concerns addressed during the massage session is fully customized to individual needs.

Do I have to be completely undressed? What do you wear for a massage?

You may undress to your level of comfort. Many people prefer to keep their underwear on during a massage, while others choose to be nude. Your massage therapist will leave the room so you can undress and lie on the massage table under a top sheet. Regardless if you choose to maintain some clothing or not, your massage therapist will always ensure that you are always properly covered with proper draping.

Will the massage hurt?

In general, massages should not hurt. In fact, if you are in pain during a massage, this may cause your muscles to tighten up causing inflammation. If the pressure is too intense, speak up so your therapist can adjust; everyone desires a different pressure and communication is key. However, some techniques may result in soreness in the following days; without severe soreness. You may compare it to a great workout, but in general, you should not have pain during your massage.

Do you talk during a massage?

Some people enjoy having a conversation during their massage but keep in mind, the treatment is all about you releasing your tensions and enjoying the experience.  Regardless of your choice, be sure to speak up during the massage if there is anything you’d like adjusted (temperature, pressure, music, etc).

What if I fall asleep and snore or drool?

It is very common (and can be considered a complement for incorporating enough relaxation); but it’s completely normal for guests to fall asleep during their massage. If you snore or drool, don’t worry, a Professional Licensed Massage Therapist has seen this before and will not judge. We love seeing you so relaxed!

What if I have body acne, skin conditions, or forgot to shave?

Rest assured, Professional Massage Therapists have seen and felt it all! Please don’t feel uncomfortable or embarrassed in any way. Your massage session should be focused on creating a relaxing and therapeutic experience; which is impossible when feeling anxious. If anything, your therapist may be able to make product or technique recommendations to help alleviate any conditions that may be bothersome to you.

What if I get an erection during my massage?

Sometimes it happens. Yet many men avoid massage for fear this will happen to them. Or choose to receive the massage but are unable to completely relax without fear. But there is no reason to be embarrassed. Sometimes involuntary; if there’s no intentions, there’s nothing to worry about. If you’re still concerned you may consider wearing more fitted underwear, providing more support, or considering more than a think sheet when being massaged. NOTE: If the therapist feels the session has turned sexual for any guest, they may stop the session to clarify the client’s intent and may decide to stop the session immediately. In no circumstance will sexual advances be tolerated in the treatment room.

How often should I get a massage?

The amount of time between massage appointments will depend on individual preference and overall needs. Depending pain level, physical needs, relaxation, emotional needs, and of course, budget will all play a factor. First recommendation is to receive a massage, decide most important aspects, and physical needs. Scheduling appointments once a month is typical; however, some people chose a biweekly massage until they feel knots and tension have been reduced, then monthly maintenance.
